The WeighTrainer

About Me

My name is Casey Butt. I've been lifting for about 19 years, seriously for the past 16. As you can see, I had quite a hill to climb. It started with losing 170 pounds of fat (from 330 pounds down to 160 pounds) and then building back up to 180 pounds at about 10% body fat. All drug-free, of course. I have terrible genetics for building muscle, so it's been quite a battle at times.

6 or 7 years ago I began writing training articles for MILO and HARDGAINER. I chose those two magazines to involve myself with purely because of their drug-free, no-nonsense approaches to training. For a couple of years I published a magazine bearing the name of this website, but discontinued it simply because I was heavily involved in my PhD at the time and couldn't devote the proper time to it.

Since the "WeighTrainer" was started in 1999 I've had the pleasure of corresponding and trading training experience with some of the top natural bodybuilders, lifters and trainers in the world (Tommy Kono, Paul Kelso, Stuart McRobert, Fred Hatfield, Dan Duchane, etc). I've also had the pleasure of corresponding with some very knowledgeable people in the more "scientific" aspects of training (for instance, Ron Sowers and Dan Moore). In 2000 this website hosted an ongoing Q and A I was having with a young aspiring bodybuilder who's since gone on to be a top national heavyweight. Some of you might remember those days, but I don't think any of us suspected he would succeed as he did. I don't want to take any credit for his accomplishments so I'll let his identity remain a secret. ;)

Over the past few years I've been heavily involved in academics and work (as a University Instructor/researcher and with the auto industry - primarily in the area of intelligent motor controls) and I haven't had a lot of time to devote to bodybuilding writing. For the past 6 years or so I've been collecting and analysing data of top drug-free bodybuilders and attempting to identify and predict bodybuilding "potential" based on that data. The results are summarized in my "Potential" article available on this website (which, in the first 3 months since being posted, received over 50,000 unique hits).

This website contains most of the original articles from this site and some newer and updated articles as well. I'll try to keep it as current as possible.
